About Maria
Welcome to Maria Elliot Physiotherapy! I am a highly qualified physiotherapist based in the Durban North area! With over two decades of experience, both in South Africa and abroad, I take great pride in delivering professional service in physiotherapy. My approach centres around tailoring treatments to meet each client’s unique needs, with a strong focus on hands-on treatment and rehabilitation.
Originally from Finland, I achieved a BSc in Physiotherapy in 2002 before moving to England where I further immersed myself in my chosen field, gaining extensive experience and completing numerous courses to refine my skills. It was during this time that I developed a keen interest in pain management, leading me to pursue and successfully complete a Master’s Degree in Pain Management from the prestigious King’s College University in London, in 2007.
I then moved to South Africa, where I worked in various physiotherapy practices across both hospital and outpatient settings. I achieved Chief Physiotherapist in the government sector before opening my own practice, which I started in 2013. 10 years later, I am still passionate about pain management and dedicated to helping those in need.
As a wife and mother of two kids, Finn and Heli, I understand the demands and challenges that come with a busy family life. Alongside my professional journey, I am also a committed crossfit athlete, having pursued this sport for the past seven years. Beyond that, I’m a budding fly fishing enthusiast, always seeking balance and new experiences in my life.
To make the process seamless for my clients, I charge medical aid rates and handle direct submissions to medical aid providers. This way, you can focus on your well-being while I take care of the administrative details. I’m dedicated to helping you achieve optimal health, improved mobility, and reduced pain! I look forward to being part of your journey!
I aim to:
- Relieve pain and reinstate natural movement and function patterns, facilitating the body’s return to its natural state.
- Enhance well-being by optimizing mobility and functional capability.
- Offer a holistic approach to your rehabilitation and overall wellness. For example, addressing back pain involves considering various factors such as posture, diet, exercise, and work dynamics.
Warm regards,
Maria Elliot
